Phillipa Blair work 1

This is one of Phillipa Blair’s artworks, she is a New Zealand artist, born in Christchurch in 1945. The part of Phillipa’s work that i find most interesting is the method that she uses to create her abstract styled paintings. The extremely colourful combination of different techniques, such as in this painting i really like. Phillipa’s use of various splatters, lines, squiggles and obscure objects of varying size shape and form gives her work the element of interest that i see in it.

Takashi Murakami work 1

This work is by Takashi Murakami, a prolific contemporary Japanese artist, born in 1962. The thing that i admire most about this work of  Takashi’s  is the form, as i find the different techniques that he would have used to get the effects that this work has. In the content of Takashis works he is known to often appropriate popular themes from mass media and pop culture, and usually turns them into either a huge 30 foot sculpture, a ‘superflat’ styled painting, or various marketable consumer goods such as figurines or phone caddies.

Jackson Pollock work 1

This work was done by the famous artist named Jackson Pollock. What i like most about Pollock’s work is the intense loading up of the various layers his work’s have. The method of Pollock’s is to use many different layers and techniques of layering to create a work that is extremely detailed and interesting as a result. As part of Pollocks method he would have to thin down all of his paint in order to get the effect he desired for his work.

Jill Sorensen work 1

This work is by Jill Sorensen, Jill is a New Zealand artist born in 1966. I think Jills work is very unique, and her style clever. I especially like the form of Jill’s work as she uses rather unique materials. for example Jill’s work uses a chemical development of the traditional encaustic painting method and instead of using pigment bound in a mix of tree resin and bee’s wax, Sorensen instead replaces the organic resin with a high gloss transparent, heat sensitive synthetic resin and chooses to use a chemical form of colouration instead of using the traditional naturally harvested pigment. It is these unique substances that is essential in the form of most of Sorensen’s work, although Sorensen’s recent work has begun to explore similar styled work but using mainly traditional drawing utensils.

Christopher Wool work 1

While looking into various artists work as research for my AD workbook i rather recently stumbled across the work of Christopher Wool. Wool’s work is exciting, grimy (not so much in this work) and full of life, his work has a somewhat street art style feel to it and the materials he likes to use relate to this, using a lot of spray paint to complete his works. Wool sometimes uses repetitive patterning to give his work the effect that he desires, which is somewhat similar to some of my own work in a sense. Wool works mainly using only black and white, although a few of his works involve the use of colour. The content of Wool’s work is usually related in some way or another to street art, and uses roller paint and spray paint for a lot of his work, which are tools commonly associated with street art or graffiti. I think that in many of his works he is trying to get the message across that grimy street art is a perfectly legitimate form of street art and can be very aesthetically pleasing through the use of abstract swirls, dots and other patterns which he usually uses in a repetitive manner to create his artwork. although i recently discovered his, he has quickly become one of my favourite artists.

David Foldvari work 1

David Foldvari is an artist who i admire very much. his work usually involves a skillful combination of photoshopped images and drawing to give a stunningly clean and beautiful overall style to his work. A lot of Davids work is black and white, which gives a nice visual effect, and when he combines colour with crisp black and white images the outcome is usually very aesthetically pleasing to most people. What i like about this particular work of his is the combination of the background face (black and white) and the colorful characters that he has layered skillfully over the top creating a very intriguing effect. the method of David’s work is to layer up images on photoshop and usually he will combine these photoshopped images with hand drawn images that he either does on the computer with a drawing pad or on paper, then uploads into photoshop.
